How to get to the Other Side

Hey guys! Serena here. Today we are going to talk about how to go from an unhealthy lifestyle to a healthy lifestyle, or as I refer to it as how to get to the other side. We are going to define what unhealthy and healthy really means and also talk about the steps that need to be taken to start your journey. Let’s jump right in.

When we talk about unhealthy or healthy living what are we really talking about? Unhealthy living means a variety of things. These can range from bad habits, stress, lots of screen time, random eating, a Body Mass Index (BMI) or body fat over 26, negative self-talk, and more. These unhealthy things can lead to weight gain, low self-confidence, health conditions like heart disease and diabetes, and more. Healthy living are things like impactful routines, quality eating, good habits, lower screen time, yoga, a BMI and body fat below 26, positive self-talk, and many more things. Healthy living can have a very positive impact on many areas of your life including relationships, overall body health, self-confidence, etc.

Making the change from unhealthy to healthy can be a challenging task, however. It takes a lot of courage to want to make a change. It’s hard no matter which way you look at it. It’s something you can only do on your own. It’s a click moment — when you’re fed up with something in your life, or just don’t want to feel tired, sluggish, overwhelmed, or stressed anymore — something clicks. I’ve watched it happen for so many people over the years. I can’t want it for you more than you want it for yourself, as a coach, friend, cohort, etc. Nobody can change your lifestyle habits but you.

When you make the change, you may want to find a good fitness coach to help you along your journey.  A good coach should provide you with information to hopefully inspire you. They should build on your momentum and start helping change your routines, systems, and habits in a way that supports your lifestyle. As a coach and industry expert, I’ve seen so many gyms and trainers use before and after photos, price drops, buzzwords, and more to lure in new clients to promise them fast results. While it can work, it’ll only last when you teach on the baby steps, the routine shifts, the moments of accountability and consistency you need to take, and customization.

It is up to you to be an educated consumer and to start building routines and habits that work for you. Fitness is custom. I can’t tell you one, singular way is going to work because it might not. You need to collect all the information to create your own success. Evaluate your systems instead of evaluating the workouts and remember, transformations aren’t 24 hour things. They can take months and years. A couple of good books for you to read would be The One Thing by Gary Keller, the founder of Keller Williams, and Atomic Habits by James Clear

Getting to the “other side” can be a life-changing journey. Patience is required as well as a lot of focus, drive + effort. It’s extremely rewarding along the way and it can also teach you a lot about yourself. If you’ve been avoiding tough conversations with yourself over the last decade, I feel that a strong fitness regime and recommitment to your health can have a very large impact. Fear diminishes, confidence increases, there’s a lightness in the air and it seems like no mountain is too challenging to climb.
